I offer lessons to students of all ages and skill levels in home as well as at Exploring Music on South De Anza Blvd in Cupertino. Lessons are generally 30 minutes weekly at $30.00 per session. In home students requesting 1 hour sessions receive a $10.00 discount amounting to $50.00 per session. Lesson material is determined by students skill level, desire to learn, and what I feel will most help their musical needs.
I generally start students on only a practice pad and sticks to develop proper hand technique before moving on to drumset. Student will learn how to practice, basic note reading, technique, and basic elements of music theory including time signatures and rhythmic concepts.
Intermediate students should be familiar with the concepts above. We will build on these ideas and design exercises to challenge the students coordination, endurance, and speed, as well as different styles and time signatures. Students can choose to what they want to learn based on their desire.
Advanced students again should be familiar with the concepts above. We will continue design exercises to challenge to students skills, as well as understand advanced concepts such as polyrhythms and linear drumming. At this point we can also cover performance etiquette, transcribing music, and working as a performing drummer.
I use several books when I practice or teach, and some of my own print outs as well.
